Creating a visual test

Introduction

Visual tests allow you to test visual changes to your product and site pages using a convenient page editor.

The basics

There are two types of visual tests - product page tests and site page tests.

Product page visual tests allow you to add content to your product page in four editable zones.

You can get very creative here and build a lot with Neat A/B Testing's visual page editor.

After you create a test, Neat A/B Testing tracks the full on-site funnel for your new product page and analyzes  the results to find the version that results in more revenue for your shop.

Site page tests give you almost complete control over the look and layout of individual pages on your site. These the pages you find in your Shopify admin by going to Online store > Pages and include pages like your about page, FAQ and landing pages. We will continue to add support for more types of pages in the future.

Creating a visual test for a product

To create a visual test for a product:

  1. Open up neat A/B Testing and click Create a test in the toolbar at the top.
  2. Click Visual test in the menu that appears.
  3. Name your test - this is only visible to you so give it a memorable name.
  4. Select the product you want to test by typing the name of the product in the Page input. It will autocomplete - then click the product you want to test.
  5. Neat A/B Testing imports the page, which will take about 30 seconds. When it's complete, you will see screenshots of your page for each variant.
  6. Click the variant you want to edit. It will open the editor in a new browser tab.
  7. Use the toolbar on the left to drag new content into the 4 editable zones on the page, indicated by the "Add new content here" placeholders. You don't have to add content to every zone.
  8. Style content by selecting the content you added and clicking the paintbrush icon in the upper left.
  9. You can preview your changes in table or mobile view by clicking the icons in the upper left of the editor.
  10. You can save any time by clicking the Save button at the top of the screen. When you're finished, click Save and close.
  11. On the test creation page, click Ok to load your changes.
  12. Preview your test by clicking the Preview your variant link. This is important! While we make every effort to make sure our visual tests are compatible with every theme, there can be exceptions. Preview your test before you put it live in your shop. If there are any problems, hit the chat icon in lower left and reach out to us.
  13. When you're happy with your changes, click Start test

When someone visits this page, they will be randomly assigned a test group. They will see the version for the group they were put into on every subsequent visit to your site.
